ABOUT SKITTLES

Skittles are a brand of chewy, fruit flavored sweets marketed and produced by the Mars company.  They were first made in 1974 by a British company, then in 1979 they were introduced to North America.  

THE CONVENIENCE OF SKiTTLES

Would you rather have a candy that melts in your pocket like Reeses cups, or a candy that you can easily pull out of your pocket and just start eating?  Skittles are very convenient for many reasons.  For example, if you want to eat starburst, you have to take the candy out of the package, and peel back the wrapper.  With skittles, you just pull one out and eat it. Also, if you want to share with friends, you have to touch their food if you're eating twizzlers, but with skittles, you just pour them out of the bag.

THE GREAT PACKAGING OF SKITTLES

Skittles packaging is a rainbow of colors.  I think it has the most appealing packaging of any candy because red has been proven to be   one of the most most eye catching colors, and that is the color of Skittles packaging.  Unlike other candies such as M&M's, skittles has a bag that makes you want to buy the candy. M&M's brown bag doesn't make me feel like i want to buy their product.  Also, there is only one wrapper, where there are wrappers everywhere for candies like Starburst and Jolly Ranchers.

                         THE LOW COST OF SKITTLES

Skittles are one of the cheapest priced candies per unit that you can buy.  Skittles are only 1.1 cent per candy.  Starburst, on the other hand, are 9.1 cents per candy, making Skittles a much better deal.  Reese's cups may be larger than skittles, but they cost more, and they are eaten much faster than skittles.

THE GREAT FLAVOR OF SKITTLES

  • Lime (Green)           Those are the flavors of the original skittles. 
  • Grape (Purple)      They sound appetizing don't they?  In recent years
  • Lemon (Yellow)    Mars has changed the lime flavor to apple, and 
  • Orange (Orange)    grape to blackcurrant. Some other varieties of 
  • Strawberry (Red)     skittles are sour, smoothie flavored, tropical,
  •                              and berry.  There are two limited edition flavors.
  •                             They are ice cream and carnival flavor(such as 
  •                            cotton candy)  All of them are delicious. You 
  •                          don't see Reeses Cups or M&Ms making new 
  •                         flavors, do you?  Skittles definately has the edge
  •                               when it comes to flavor.
